About

When founded in 1949, the Communist People’s Republic of China introduced ‘Renminbi’ or ‘the people’s currency’ as the official name of their money. ‘Yuan’ is the name of a unit of the renminbi currency. Something costs one yuan or 10 yuan, but you can’t say it cost 10 renminbi.
