How to send

Send your money to another country safely and reliably online, in store or using our Stage & Pay option to start your transaction at home and complete in store. Just follow these simple steps to send money with Money Services and Western Union.

  • Find a Money Services location near you
    Search by state, city or ZIP code to find your local Money Services.

  • Give the store associate
    Stop by and give the store associate the receiver’s name, their location, and the amount you want to send so the associate can set up the transfer. If you’re using our Stage & Pay option, you can do this online at home before finalizing your transfer at your local Money Services.

  • In Minutes or Next Day?
    Decide on your transfer option, then give your payment and fee to the store associate.

  • Give the receiver the code
    Give the receiver the 10-digit Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) so they can collect the cash – they’ll also need a photo ID.

How to pick up cash

Your recipient can pick up money from a Western Union agent. With 500,000 locations around the world, it’s easy to find one close by, at many major banks, grocery stores, currency exchanges and other outlets.

What does the receiver

To pick up money, your receiver will generally need:

  • The tracking number (MTCN) the sender provides
  • Sender’s complete name
  • Sender’s country and state/city/province may be required
  • The amount expected
  • Government-issued ID
  • In some receiving countries, a security question may be required

Do I need a bank account

You can send money to a loved one without having a bank account. Just drop by Money Services and bring along the cash to send, and our store associates will help you set up the money transfer quickly and easily.

Service and funds availability depends on certain factors including the Service selected, the selection of delayed delivery options, special terms applicable to each Service, amount sent, destination country, currency availability, regulatory issues, consumer protection issues, identification requirements, delivery restrictions, agent location hours, and differences in time zones (collectively, “Restrictions”).

**Fee reductions apply only to the Western Union transfer fee for a single Western Union Money Transfer or Quick Collect transaction. Excludes all other services, including without limitation, online bill payments, and money transfers via social/chat applications. Points used will not be reversible and if amount of transfer fee is less than redeemed discount, no cash, credit or refund will be provided. Western Union reserves the right to offer promotional discounts that cannot be combined with My WU fee reductions.
