Reducing your

Want to spend less on your cell phone? Try out our ten top tips to help lower your next payment:

  • Check to see if you’re on the right price plan. If you always use more — or far fewer — minutes and data than your plan allows, think about switching to a new deal.

  • Look into changing your carrier. Shop around for another deal from a different provider.

  • Cut your text messages and use WhatsApp or Nimbuzz instead.

  • Use an online calling service such as Skype or Viber.

  • Keep your data use in check. Download an app to track your usage and compress the data you use.

  • Look into local-only plans if you don’t make long distance calls.

  • Go contract-free or prepaid. Contract-free means you still pay a monthly bill, but don’t have to sign up long-term, while prepaid services enable you to pay just for the minutes you use.

  • See if it’s possible to use the same carrier as your friends and family – calls to the same network can be cheaper.

  • Check your insurance costs. You might be able to switch to a basic package to reduce the cost.

  • Hang on to your cell phone for longer – just because an upgrade is available, it doesn’t mean you have to pay more for it right away.
