NV Energy, formally the Nevada Power Company, was formed in 1906 under the name Consolidated Power and Telephone to provide electric and telephone to the newly-formed Las Vegas area. After splitting into two distinct entities to handle each side of the business, Southern Nevada Power became the first company to get energy from the Hoover Dam.
