Atmos Energy is one of the largest natural gas-only suppliers in the United States, serving more than three million customers in eight states between the Rockies and the Blue Ridge Mountains. With headquarters in Texas, the company has acquired a number of other utility companies, which means it’s now helping to heat up homes across a much wider area. Atmos Energy began life in the Texas panhandle in around 1906, before a series of spin-offs and mergers saw it become the Pioneer Corporation during the early 1980s. The Energas division of the corporation changed its name to become Atmos Energy in 1988.
